COUPLES THERAPY

Couple therapy is aimed at addressing those painful cycles of arguing, infidelity and separation, helping you and your partner in building a more satisfying, intimate and loving connection.

Questions to assist in deciding if couples therapy is needed:

  • Has your relationship recently been damaged by infidelity or financial difficulties?
  • Do you find you are both trapped in negative cycles of arguing and hurtful fighting?
  • Have individual issues caused distance and lack of emotional and physical intimacy?
  • Would you like to improve on creating a more intimate and meaningful connection while learning new and improved methods of communicating?

Couples therapy can also help in preparing engaged couples for marriage, allowing them to identify potential areas of conflict. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples in dealing with anger, fear, loss of trust and betrayal in their relationship. EFT focuses on helping couples discover feelings and emotions that are blocked by the more immediate feelings you display in your relationship. The couples then learn to express these feelings in a way that facilitates connection and attunement to one another’s needs. EFT helps couples to respond to each other in a way that builds connection and fosters a nurturing relationship. Examining negative patterns of interaction and working on ways to change them remains a focus of EFT.
